Guido’s, which has 10 locations throughout Michigan, has been located in Sault Ste. Marie for 15 years; the company itself will be celebrating 25 years in 2018. The Sault Ste. Marie location is owned and operated by Carrie Raynard and her goal when bringing Guido’s to the Sault was to a bring a quality and premium product to the area. Guido’s is known for their tagline “The Savory Sauce Boss” and this is showcased by the three varieties of pizza sauce they carry. Speaking of pizza, Guido’s offers hand tossed, deep dish, and thin crust options when ordering a pizza. Additionally, Guido’s serves wings, pasta, salad, stromboli, subs, and several types of bread.
Guido’s currently employees 15 people and that staffing level is mostly the same throughout the year. Some of the changes noticed in the past 15 years is the necessity of social media and using it to showcase the products offered. When Guido’s originally opened, social media was not a mainstream concept. Additionally, Guido’s also has moved with the times by offering different products as tastes change. Some exciting things coming to Guido’s soon are an old world pepperoni pizza and a special edition to the menu celebrating Guido’s 25th anniversary next year. When asked about changes locally, Raynard said that recently the tourist season has brought more business to their location. In the past the tourist market had not impacted sales in the way other businesses see, but with current marketing efforts that have advertised the region as a whole, sales have increased throughout the tourist season.
Though the Sault location is a franchise of a Michigan base company, Raynard makes an effort to give back to the community that has helped make her business successful. They have donated to various causes and a specific organization that is close to Raynard’s heart is the Hospice House. Additionally, they sponsor events like the chuck-a-puck for Sault High and discounts for college students, along with employees at the hospital.
