Press Release

Sault Ste. Marie, MI: An agreement has been struck between Darby Broadcasting Inc. and newly formed TSE Broadcasting, LLC., for the purchase of WUPN Eagle 95.1 radio station, under an LMA agreement, effective September 1st, 2018. WUPN was formerly operated by Kent and Rosemary Smith, who over the years have created a number of successful Eagle radio stations across the U.P. and Northern Lower Michigan. The new operators and purchasers of Eagle 95.1 are another husband and wife team of Tim and Lindsay Ellis, neither of whom are strangers to Eagle 95.1 radio station.

Lindsay began her radio career with The Eagle in 2013 doing sales and an on-air evening shift. It was then that she would first meet another local DJ working for a competing radio station, who would eventually become her husband. “The story of our separate history's in radio having come full circle to ownership is one for the books, and I am excited for this new journey and continued investment of putting community first alongside my husband,” said Ellis. Lindsay currently works for the Sault Ste. Marie Downtown Development Authority as their Marketing and Events Coordinator, and Centria Healthcare, where she works with children with Autism.

Tim Ellis, also known on the radio as Timmy E, has been working for Eagle 95.1 as their Morning Show Host for the past two and a half years, but has been a local Radio DJ in Sault Ste. Marie for the past 22 years. After graduating from Central Michigan University in 1996 with his degree in Broadcast and Cinematic Arts, Tim headed home in hopes to find work in his hometown. “Finding work in my hometown was my number one priority. This is a special corner of the world we live in, and I have always wanted to find success and grow old here,” said Ellis. “Right out of graduation from CMU I was lucky enough to get my foot in the door with Martz Communications doing an overnight shift on 99.5 Yes FM. Over the next twenty years I would work every on air shift at the station until I was hosting the iconic Soo Morning Crew, Morning Show. It was a dream come true for a local boy! Then as time moves on and things change, it was time for me to make a change as well and I accepted an offer from Kent Smith to take over the Morning Show on Eagle 95.1. Kent and Rosemary have been amazing people to work for and to now be given this opportunity, I will never be able to thank them enough. I have always wanted to be a business owner in my hometown and now to be able to do it in my career that I love, and to be able to do it with my wife at my side, what else could I ask for? We are truly blessed. We have some fun and amazing plans for the station and we can’t wait to get started.”

Eagle 95.1, WUPN Radio Station made its’ debut in Sault Ste. Marie in October of 2012 and runs a music format of Classic Hits while also covering local High School Sports with Sault High Blue Devil Hockey and Brimley Bays Football and Basketball.
